About

How Frameshift works

Frameshift News turns each major news story into a single timeline. It reads coverage from hundreds of outlets, adds an entry only when something about the story actually changes, and labels each entry with the kind of change it was.

Where the reporting comes from

Every entry is built from published reporting by news organizations, and links to the articles it draws on. Frameshift does not do original reporting. If a fact matters to you, the source links on each update are the place to check it.

How entries are written

Entries are synthesized by AI from multiple reports of the same development, so one update reflects what several outlets reported instead of one outlet’s framing. Each entry shows how many sources it was synthesized from.

A new entry is added only when a development changes the story. Repeated coverage of something already on the timeline does not create a new entry.

The five labels

Every change is labeled with one of five shift types:

Origin
The first reported event that starts a timeline. Every story has exactly one Origin.
Escalation
The situation became more serious: more force, higher stakes, more people affected, or a wider scope than before.
Reversal
A development contradicts or undoes the direction the story was moving in: a ruling overturned, a deal collapsing, a claim retracted.
New Facts
Information comes out that wasn’t public before, without changing the story’s direction on its own.
Confirmed
Something that was reported, alleged, or expected is confirmed by an official statement, a document, or the people involved.

Corrections

If an entry gets a fact, a name, a title, a date, or a label wrong, email contact@frameshiftnews.com with the link to the story. Every story page also has a “Report an error” link that fills this in for you. Confirmed errors are fixed on the timeline itself.

Who runs it

Frameshift News is built and run by Andrew Holland, and published by Parallax LLC, a North Carolina company. Feedback and corrections go to one inbox: contact@frameshiftnews.com.

Web and app

A selection of timelines is free to read on this site. The app has the full Vault, and lets you pin a story to get a notification when its timeline changes.
