New Facts: By-Election Date Confirmed for Clacton
Election officials set the Clacton parliamentary by-election for Thursday 13 August 2026.
The contest was triggered by the resignation of MP Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK; he has said he will stand again to try to reclaim the seat.
Acting Returning Officer Ian Davidson set the poll after receiving the election writ from the Clerk of the Crown in Chancery, the legal instruction that formally starts a by-election.
With the date fixed, the statutory timetable begins for candidate nominations, voter registration, and postal and proxy voting arrangements.
The final list of candidates will be published once nominations close, and voters in the Clacton constituency will cast their ballots on 13 August.
