New Actor: Gulf States Plan Talks With Iran Next Week
The six-member Gulf Cooperation Council is weighing a meeting with Iranian officials next week to discuss the future of the Strait of Hormuz. Oman is seeking to bring the GCC and Iranian foreign ministers together on Monday in Salalah.
If it goes ahead, it would be the first such gathering with Iran since the war began more than six months ago. Iran has said plans are underway for discussions with Gulf neighbors.
Escalating fighting in Yemen may complicate the plans. The Bab el-Mandeb chokepoint has also become sensitive for oil markets.
